The entrepreneur had a vision around navigating space and time. The product behind that vision still had to be discovered.
The starting point was not a conventional brief. An entrepreneur came to us with an early idea around navigating through space and time. There was a direction, but many fundamental questions were still unanswered.
What exactly should people navigate? How could a real environment become digital without simply recreating it manually in 3D? What information should be captured? What would make the resulting environment useful rather than simply visually impressive? And what would happen if the same physical place could be captured repeatedly?
We started exploring those questions together. High precision 3D scanning progressively became an important part of the answer. If a physical environment could be captured with sufficient precision, it could potentially remain accessible digitally after the physical visit had ended. If the same environment could be captured at different moments, people could potentially navigate not only through space, but through the evolution of that space over time.
The opportunity gradually became clearer: capture physical reality, make it explorable digitally, and add time as another dimension.
The biggest obstacle was not imagining the experience. It was finding people capable of making it technically possible.
Once the concept became more ambitious, we encountered a significant obstacle. Several developers and technical people we consulted told us that what we wanted to achieve was not realistically possible.
Point clouds could contain enormous quantities of data. Displaying them interactively created major performance constraints. Navigating through them naturally while preserving useful levels of detail introduced another layer of complexity. And the problem did not fit neatly inside conventional software development.
But we did not want the capabilities of the first available technical team to determine what the concept was allowed to become. We continued looking.
Software development alone was not enough. 3D expertise alone was not enough. Understanding scanning and point clouds alone was not enough. The project required people capable of crossing those boundaries.
BAMHUB began connecting software developers, 3D specialists and hybrid technical profiles capable of understanding how these different worlds could work together. Instead of reducing the ambition until an existing team could execute it, we searched for the team capable of executing the ambition.
Turn captured physical reality into an environment people could explore, measure and revisit through time.
As the exploration progressed, the product became much more concrete. A physical environment could be captured through high precision scanning and transformed into spatial data. Instead of rebuilding that environment manually as a conventional 3D model, the captured reality itself could become the basis of the digital experience.
Users could enter the environment, navigate through it, inspect particular areas and take measurements directly from the captured spatial information.
Repeated captures introduced the dimension that had been present in the original entrepreneurial intuition from the beginning: time. If the same building, construction site or physical environment was scanned repeatedly, each capture could preserve a different moment of its existence.
The digital environment could therefore become more than a representation of where things were. It could also show when they were there and how the environment had changed. The concept progressively evolved towards what Space Time today describes as a 4D twin, combining spatial information with time.
Enter a real place digitally. Move through it. Inspect it. Measure it. Return to another moment.
The product experience needed to make an extremely technical system feel understandable. The user did not need to know how point clouds were structured. They did not need to think about rendering architecture, data density or the enormous quantities of spatial information being processed.
They needed to understand the place.
Navigation therefore became central to the experience. The interface needed to allow people to move naturally through captured environments while the technology managed the complexity behind them.
Measurement transformed the experience further. The environment was no longer something people could simply look at. It became something they could work with. And the temporal dimension created another possibility: returning to the same physical environment at a different captured moment and understanding what had changed.
The complexity remained behind the interface. For the user, the experience was about accessing reality without necessarily being there.
When we were told it could not be done, finding the people capable of doing it became part of the project.
BAMHUB remained involved for approximately a year during the early concept and product development. The work went far beyond designing an interface.
A significant part of making the idea real involved understanding which capabilities were missing, searching for the appropriate specialists and finding ways for disciplines that normally worked separately to solve the same problem together. Software developers had to work with 3D specialists.
Technical experimentation had to happen alongside experience design.
Performance constraints influenced product decisions, while product decisions created new technical problems to solve.
There was no established template for what we were trying to create.
Different approaches had to be explored, challenged and combined before the experience could behave as originally imagined. Rather than reducing the concept until it became straightforward to execute, we kept searching for a viable way to execute the concept.
By 2019, Space Time had moved into prototype development, real world testing and its first operational version, followed by its first contracts and virtual twin deliveries.
An entrepreneur brought the ambition.
BAMHUB helped shape what it could become and assembled the capabilities required to make it possible.
Space Time originated from an entrepreneur's early vision around navigating through space and time. BAMHUB joined while that vision was still being defined.
Pavel Strekalovski worked on the concept and experience, exploring alongside the entrepreneur how scanning, spatial information, navigation, measurement and time could come together as a product. BAMHUB then brought its design and technical capabilities into the project and continued searching beyond its immediate team when conventional development approaches reached their limits.
Software developers, 3D specialists and hybrid technical profiles were brought together around the same challenge. The collaboration became sufficiently close that deeper forms of partnership and team integration were discussed between the entrepreneur and Pavel.
At that time, BAMHUB was not structured around that type of venture participation, and Space Time subsequently continued developing independently. The company and its team then took the original foundations much further.
An ambitious idea became a functioning product. The product became the foundation for an independent technology company.
The initial exploration moved beyond concept. Physical environments could be captured and transformed into digital environments that people could navigate and inspect. Spatial information could be made accessible through an experience rather than remaining only as specialist technical data.
Measurements could be taken inside the captured environment. Repeated captures opened the possibility of understanding the same physical space across different moments.
Space Time continued developing these foundations after BAMHUB's early involvement. The company moved from prototype and real world testing into its first operational product, first contracts and first virtual twin deliveries.
Over the following years, its technology, research capabilities and applications continued expanding.
What began as an early product exploration around space and time became the technological foundation of an independent Luxembourg company.
The strongest validation came later: the original principle proved useful far beyond the first use cases we had imagined.
Space Time has since grown into an established technology company in Luxembourg and the Greater Region. Today, its references include major organisations such as ArcelorMittal, Soludec, Ville de Luxembourg, Luxport, Prefalux and Thomas & Piron, among others.
But the most interesting impact is how far the original principle has travelled.
Space Time now applies its technologies to buildings and construction sites, industrial environments, mines, forests and security. Physical conditions can be captured and revisited digitally. Complex or hazardous environments can be reconstructed and analysed. Natural environments can become measurable digital representations. Spatial capture can be combined with autonomous systems, sensors and monitoring technologies.
The company increasingly combines captured reality with data analysis, automation and artificial intelligence to extract information from physical environments rather than simply visualising them.
The company that exists today is much broader than the product BAMHUB originally helped shape. An idea that was initially difficult even to explain, and that several technical people considered unrealistic, became part of the foundation of a company now solving real problems across multiple industries.
BAMHUB's involvement ended. Space Time kept expanding the idea.
After the initial period of concept and product development, Space Time continued its journey independently. The entrepreneur and his team developed their own organisation, technology, research capabilities, partnerships and customer base.
The original idea around navigating physical reality expanded into construction, industry, mining, forestry, security, robotics, automated capture and data analysis. The company progressively moved beyond visualising environments towards understanding what captured spatial information could reveal.
For BAMHUB, this evolution is an important part of the story. An entrepreneur arrived with an ambitious but still undefined vision. We helped explore what that vision could become. We connected it with new possibilities around scanning, spatial data, navigation, measurement and time. When conventional technical answers said that parts of the idea could not be built, we kept searching for the right combination of expertise.
Together, those explorations became a functioning product. Then Space Time took those foundations and continued building. Years later, the company has expanded far beyond the original project, while the fundamental principle remains recognisable: capture physical reality, make it digitally accessible, understand how it changes and turn that information into something people can use.
