AGC needed to show the technologies of tomorrow without borrowing someone else's car to do it.
Automotive glass rarely exists as an isolated product.
Its value becomes understandable when people see where it belongs within a vehicle and what it can enable.
But demonstrating new technologies through existing production cars created several constraints. Every vehicle already carried a manufacturer's identity. Its design belonged to a particular moment in automotive history. And technologies intended for future vehicles could appear limited by a car designed around the present.
AGC needed an environment it could use independently. One capable of accommodating different technologies, applications and future scenarios over time.
The opportunity was therefore larger than creating another 3D visualisation.
It was to create a vehicle specifically designed to make future possibilities visible.
Designing for the future is different from designing something that simply looks futuristic.
The obvious response could have been an exaggerated concept car filled with spectacular forms. But extreme futurism creates its own problem. It ages.
What looks futuristic today can become an obvious representation of yesterday's idea of tomorrow.
AGC needed something different. A vehicle with enough character to be memorable, but without a recognisable automotive brand. Forward-looking enough to accommodate technologies that were still emerging, but credible enough to support real conversations with automotive customers. And timeless enough to remain useful across several years rather than one communication cycle.
The challenge was therefore not to predict one future car.
It was to create a neutral vehicle capable of carrying several possible futures.
Instead of adapting AGC's technologies to an existing car, create the car AGC needed around its technologies.
BAMHUB conceived a complete white-label vehicle specifically around AGC's position as an automotive technology and glass supplier.
The exterior was developed to create a credible automotive presence without borrowing the identity of an existing manufacturer. Proportions, surfaces and details needed to feel contemporary while avoiding design elements that could quickly associate the vehicle with one particular period.
The interior opened another possibility. If AGC was developing the glass of future vehicles, why should glass remain limited to windows?
BAMHUB imagined a continuous glass dashboard extending across the cabin, accompanied by a central console conceived as part of the same digital environment. Glass could become part of the interface itself.
The vehicle therefore became more than a neutral support for demonstrating individual products.
It became an environment for imagining what automotive glass could become.
Once glass becomes an interface, the question changes from what people see through it to what they experience through it.
The project extended beyond the physical design of the vehicle.
BAMHUB also explored how digital information could live across these new surfaces. How could information appear across a continuous dashboard? Which areas belonged to the driver? Which could serve passengers? How could the interface coexist with the architecture of the interior?
How could different AGC technologies be demonstrated without turning the vehicle into a catalogue?
The objective was not to create a production-ready automotive operating system. It was to make the possibilities of these future surfaces understandable.
Exterior design, interior architecture, glass, technology and digital experience therefore became parts of one coherent concept.
Instead of presenting isolated technologies, AGC could present the experience those technologies might one day create together.
An idea for a future vehicle had to become a credible automotive object.
BAMHUB developed the original concept and worked with specialised partners to translate it into a complete automotive design and detailed 3D vehicle.
The process required balancing creative ambition with the different constraints surrounding its intended use.
The proportions had to work. The exterior needed to remain brand-neutral. Glass surfaces needed to support AGC's different demonstration requirements. The interior needed to accommodate future technologies and interfaces. The vehicle had to remain coherent from every viewpoint. And the resulting digital asset needed to be flexible enough to work across different presentations, communications, technologies and formats.
This was not an exercise in engineering a production vehicle. The purpose was different.
Make a future automotive environment sufficiently coherent and credible that it could support real conversations about technologies still evolving.
The project connected material expertise, automotive thinking, product concept, 3D and digital experience.
AGC brought its knowledge of automotive glass, technologies, technical realities and the requirements of its automotive customers.
BAMHUB developed the concept and overall experience, translating those requirements into the vision of a complete vehicle.
Specialised partners contributed the automotive design and production capabilities required to develop the concept at the necessary level of detail.
The result emerged from the intersection of these different disciplines rather than from one isolated design exercise.
And because the vehicle was created specifically for AGC, its purpose remained clear throughout the process.
It did not belong to a car brand. It belonged to the future possibilities AGC wanted to demonstrate.
A demonstration concept became a reusable intellectual and visual asset for AGC.
The completed vehicle gave AGC its own brand-neutral environment for visualising automotive technologies.
Different glass products and future applications could be shown directly within a complete vehicle without depending on an existing manufacturer's model.
The exterior created a consistent platform. The interior provided a context for new glass applications. The digital surfaces extended the conversation towards future user experiences.
The vehicle could then be used across renders, communications, presentations and customer discussions in different formats.
Its value went beyond the original assignment. AGC subsequently acquired the rights to the concept, allowing it to become an asset the company could continue using and developing.
What started as a way to present technologies became a concept valuable enough to own.
Ideas imagined as a possible automotive future eventually started appearing in the automotive reality around us.
One of the most forward-looking dimensions of the 2015 concept was its interior.
The continuous glass dashboard was imagined at a time when large integrated digital surfaces extending across vehicle cabins were far from the automotive norm.
In the years that followed, remarkably similar principles began appearing across the premium automotive industry, as dashboards evolved towards larger continuous displays, integrated digital surfaces and new applications of automotive glass.
BAMHUB does not claim authorship of the production vehicles that subsequently appeared.
What matters is the direction.
Ideas explored through the AGC concept years earlier progressively began to resemble the automotive reality developing around it. At the same time, AGC continued using the concept across its own communication and presentation ecosystem.
A future we had imagined was progressively becoming less futuristic.
Eight years later, the question returned: what should the future look like now?
The original vehicle had deliberately been designed to survive beyond one automotive design cycle. Years later, that objective faced its ultimate test.
The automotive world had changed. Displays had become larger. Interfaces had become more integrated. Digital surfaces had progressively replaced conventional dashboard elements. Glass was taking on new functions. And AGC's own technologies had continued evolving.
Approximately eight years after the original concept, BAMHUB was asked to revisit the vehicle and evolve its design so it could continue representing the years ahead.
The task was no longer to create the original future. It was to determine how a concept originally designed for tomorrow should evolve once tomorrow had started arriving.
The first project created the future-facing asset. The next one protected its relevance.
Future-proofing is not about predicting the future perfectly. It is about creating enough room for the future to evolve.
The AGC Concept Car demonstrated something that extends far beyond automotive design.
When an organisation needs to communicate technologies that are still evolving, designing only around today's reality can immediately limit tomorrow's possibilities.
Sometimes a new product needs a new environment before that environment exists in the market. Sometimes the right answer is not another presentation of individual features, but a complete context in which people can understand how those features might eventually work together.
And sometimes the strongest validation of a future-facing concept comes years later. Not because every prediction became exactly true. But because the questions it explored became increasingly real.
